Deputy Head of Fleet Management

We’re seeking a Deputy Head of Fleet Management who will share our drive and passion in this pivotal role in our Fleet and Waste Strategy team to manage the council’s corporate fleet. The role will be maintaining and improving operational processes and leading on fleet management compliance, health and safety, procurement, projects, policy and developing future strategy.
The Role
Reporting to the Head of Fleet and Waste Strategy, the Deputy Head of Fleet Management will be responsible for a range of varied and challenging duties and projects including supporting Greenwich’s transition to a zero-emission fleet. As a named Transport Manager on the Council’s Operator Licence, you will be responsible for developing and introducing corporate fleet management policies and have effective control over the fleet and its drivers, and support the continuing accreditation to the Fleet Operator’s Recognition Scheme.. You will be leading on vehicle procurements for a fleet of c.500 vehicles.
About you
The successful candidate for the role of Deputy Head of Fleet Management will:
- Hold a UK-recognised Transport Manager Certificate of Professional Competence (Road Haulage) qualification.
- Have knowledge and understanding of fleet management legislation, policy and best practice and an ability to influence managers and staff delivering frontline services.
- Knowledge of the range of vehicles used to undertake the full range of services within a Local Authority environment and the specific issues that arise with municipal vehicles and their operation.
- Have previous experience in successfully managing the Operator’s Licence for a large HGV fleet and effectively managing fleet-related risk.
- Show understanding and commitment to the council’s equal opportunities policies and staff values.
